Claire Woods Academy
Clare Woods Academy is a special education facility dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with disabilities. For more than 38 years, Clare Woods Academy, a non-public alternative day school, continues to help families by offering superior education and life skills training opportunities for children with mental impairments and developmental disabilities. Families feel confident that their child will participate in quality programs that meet their academic, social, and emotional needs. Through education, Clare Woods Academy provides opportunities for children to develop the skills necessary to maximize their successes in life both now and in the future. Clare Woods Academy provides a curriculum that is varied, offering the services of professionals to assist those we serve to reach their goals. Clare Woods Academy, a 501 (c)(3) Not for Profit Organization, currently serves 120 students. The students reside in more than 50 communities, serving 40+ school districts, and covering 9 counties throughout northern Illinois. The Clare Woods Academy staff includes Certified Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Certified Teaching Assistants, and other specialists. The staff is skilled in providing for the special needs student in the areas of Academics, Music, Art, Physical Education, Behavior, and Vocational courses, tailored to the needs of the students. Clare Woods Academy is operated by Bartlett Learning Center, Inc. and is a sponsored ministry of The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis.
Anita Schneider, is the director of the Clare Woods academy Choir and received her Bachelor of Music education from Elmhurst College. While at Elmhurst, she studied piano with Kim Nagy and performed with the Elmhurst College Concert Choir, Elmhurst College Women’s Chorus and Elmhurst College Concert Band, where she still performs on clarinet. She participated in the Western Jamaican International Music Festival in 1994 and 1995, and was also an active member of the Music Honor Society: Lambda Sigma Psi, the Music Educators National Conference and the American Orff Schulwerk Association. In August of 1999, Ms. Schneider joined the staff of the Clare Woods Academy and founded the Clare Woods Academy Choir in the fall of 2001. |
